The Saint Lucia Athletics Association has launched the Julien Alfred Foundation to empower young people through education, sports, and community development initiatives.

Named after the island’s World Indoor 60m Champion, the Association said the Julien Alfred Foundation aims to “inspire and support young individuals in achieving their full potential, regardless of their background or circumstances”.

It added: “The launch of the Julien Alfred Foundation marks a significant milestone in our commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of young people in our community and beyond.”

During a launch event on 6 April at the St Lucia Olympic Committee’s Headquarters, attendees learned more about the foundation’s mission, vision, and upcoming projects. The programme is supported by Alfred’s sponsors Puma and 1st National Bank and will particularly focus on the provision of essential school supplies and athletic equipment.

Speaking about the creation of the foundation during a lavish welcome home ceremony at the Hewannora International Airport, Alfred said: “I am hoping it can inspire the youth to also continue in the same path, maybe a different path.”

Alfred won her gold medal at the World Indoor Championships in Scotland in March. She stormed to victory in 6.98 seconds.
